Raúl Echeberría

Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean; Internet Society Board of Trustees

Raúl Echeberría is well-known for his contributions to the development of the Internet within the Latin American community. He is one of the founders of LACNIC (the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean), served as chairman of its Board of Directors between 2000 and 2002 and has been its Executive Director since then. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Internet Society and previously served as its Chairman.

Between 1998 and 2002 he was member of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Network Forum, and he was also a member of ICANN’s Name Council on behalf of the non-commercial constituency when it was created in 1999.

In 2004 and 2005, he participated in the Working Group on Internet Governance created by the United Nations Secretary General and played a role in the negotiations related to this issue at the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis. He was twice chosen to be a part of the Internet Governance Forum’s Multistakeholder Advisory Group and in November 2007 was a panelist at the main session on Critical Internet Resources at the IGF meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
