Charles Herzfeld creates the ARPAnet

ARPA’s Charles Herzfeld (center, in white shirt) and other military researchers visit the Kwajalein Atoll for missile defense tests.  Herzfeld works with his colleague JR Licklider on the issues associated with processing the missile data, which leads to the creation of ARPAnet.
